COSMETIC WHITE FILLINGS
Fillings are required when decay is detected in your teeth or teeth are fractured. Decay is not usually noticed in the form of pain until the cavity is quite large – that’s why regular check ups and radiographs are important. The damaged tooth structure is replaced with a cosmetic composite filling. We use the latest filling materials to ensure that your fillings look and feel great and last for as long as possible. Old amalgam fillings can be replaced for cosmetic reasons.
CROWNS AND ONLAYS
Crowns or onlays are restorations that are required when the defect or cavity in a tooth is too large for a conventional filling. Crowns are made by a local high quality laboratory and are bonded or cemented onto your tooth. Crowns can be made out of several materials – ceramic (white), metal, gold or a combination of metal and ceramic. Sometimes existing crowns need replacing.
ENDODONTIC/ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
When decay spreads into the nerve of a tooth it can cause the nerve to become inflamed, die or become infected. Sometimes this can cause bad tooth ache and sometimes the nerve can die without any pain. When this happens – root canal treatment is required to save the tooth.
At Deddington Dental we use rotary root canal systems available to treat your teeth. Using this latest technology we can provide pain free root canal treatment and aim for the best quality and success rates possible.
Root canal treatment usually takes 1-2 appointments to complete. Local anaesthetic is used and the decay in your tooth is removed – similar to how a filling is done. The dead or inflamed nerve is cleaned out and disinfected. The nerve is replaced with a filling material to seal it off to bacteria and to prevent problems in the future. A crown will usually be recommended after this treatment to protect the brittle tooth.
A dental bridge is a treatment option available to replace missing teeth. They are a fixed option where teeth either side of the gap are prepared for crowns and impressions are taken. The dental laboratory use these moulds to make a bridge which can be cemented onto the prepared teeth to replace the missing tooth/teeth.
In certain cases bridges with little or no preparation to the adjacent teeth can be fabricated.
Dentures are a treatment option available to replace missingteeth. They can allow you to enjoy a healthy diet and smilewith confidence. Dentures are made of either acrylic (plastic)or metal and are removable.
A ‘complete’ or ‘full’ denture is one which replaces all thenatural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw.
A ‘partial’ denture fills in the spaces left by lost or missingteeth. It may be fastened to your natural teeth with metalclasps or ‘precision attachments’.
Extractions are the removal of teeth when they are no longer restorable or saveable. At Deddington Dental we have access to an oral surgeon for more complex extraction procedures. The extraction itself will be painless and comfortable as possible.
Bleeding gums can indicate the presence of gum disease. It is caused by bacteria, plaque and calculus build up in between the teeth and lack of cleaning these areas. Gum disease is characterised by bone loss, which can lead to loose teeth, gum abscesses and bad tastes/breath.
Gum treatment is required to clean the teeth and gums to allow for good cleaning at home and the prevention of loss of teeth. When the gum disease is more advanced local anaesthetic is required to numb up the gums to allow for painless cleaning. The dentist will assess what level of treatment you require to achieve a healthy mouth. At Deddington Dental the dentist or hygienist will use the latest in ultrasonic and Piezo cleaning technology to clean your teeth and gums. The teeth are then polished to remove any staining.
If you have gum disease it is important to have regular professional cleaning to control the disease and the dentist/hygienist will demonstrate how to keep your teeth clean at home.
